Listening: Podcasts, Playlists, and Progress
Discover and subscribe to podcasts, manage playlists, and keep listening progress in sync across devices.
1. Discover and Subscribe
Listening is built around podcasts, searchable by name, genre, or trending charts. Set your preferred country to see more relevant trending and genre results.
- 1Open Listening → Discover and search for a show, or browse trending and genre lists.
- 2Open a podcast to see its episodes, then Subscribe to add it to your library.
- 3Subscribed shows appear under your Subscriptions tab with new episodes highlighted.
2. Library Tabs
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Subscriptions | Podcasts you follow, with new-episode indicators. |
| Playlists | Custom episode queues you build yourself. |
| Favourites | Episodes you have starred for easy return. |
| New releases | Recently published episodes from shows you follow. |
| Archived | Episodes you have finished or hidden from the main queue. |
| Stations | Saved radio stations (favorites); a full radio browser is still being finished on both platforms. |
3. The Player
- Adjust playback speed from the player controls or set a default in Settings → Audio Settings.
- Set a sleep timer to stop playback automatically after a chosen duration.
- Jump between chapters when a podcast provides chapter markers.
- Open the transcript view, when available, to read along and catch difficult phrases without stopping playback.
Transcripts depend on the show
Not every podcast publishes a transcript or chapter markers. When neither is available, the player still supports normal seek, speed, and sleep-timer controls.
4. Episode Progress and Daily Goals
Talkey remembers your position in every episode so you can resume on any signed-in device from a Continue Listening shortcut.
- Listening minutes count toward your daily listening goal and listening streak.
- Set or change your daily listening target in Settings → Daily Goals.
- Progress syncs shortly after you pause or finish an episode while online.
5. iOS-Only Listening Features
| Feature | Availability |
|---|---|
| Offline downloads | iOS only. Download episodes for offline listening, with auto-download and Wi-Fi-only options in Audio Settings. |
| Audiobooks | iOS only, as a dedicated library section separate from podcasts. |
| OPML subscription import | iOS only. Bring in your existing podcast subscriptions from another app. |
| Smart Speed, Voice Boost, Skip Silence | Premium audio processing currently implemented on iOS; the toggles also appear in web settings for parity but primarily affect the iOS player today. |
Radio is still in progress
Both apps let you save favorite radio stations, but the interactive station browser/map is not fully wired into either the web dashboard or the iOS Listening tab yet.
6. Troubleshooting and Sync
- If an episode won't play, check your connection and try a different episode to see whether the issue is show-specific.
- If your position doesn't carry over to another device, make sure the previous device stayed online long enough after you paused for the update to sync.
- If a subscribed show is missing new episodes, reopen the podcast page to force a refresh.
