Your Account, Goals, and Cross-Device Sync
Understand what Talkey syncs, how daily goals work, and how to safely manage or delete your account.
1. Use One Account on Every Device
Cross-device data belongs to your signed-in Talkey account, not to a device name. Sign in with the same account on the web and iOS before expecting progress to appear.
Talkey writes many actions locally first for a responsive experience and then sends them to the cloud. A connection interruption can therefore make one device look newer until synchronization finishes.
2. What Talkey Syncs
| Area | Examples of synced data |
|---|---|
| Flashcards | Folders, decks, card content, priorities, algorithms, review history, due dates, and scheduling state. |
| Courses | Enrollment, tutoring language, lesson starts, completion scores, bookmarks, and completed-lesson counts. |
| Goals | Daily flashcard, listening, and reading targets; achieved values; goal history; and streak records. |
| Listening | Podcast subscriptions, episode state and position, playlists, radio favorites, and related settings. |
| Reading | Uploaded and catalog books, bookmarks, collections, and reader settings. |
| Profile | Display name, user tag, avatar, country, app preferences, achievements, and subscription entitlement. |
Files can finish later than metadata
Large deck media, uploaded books, covers, and downloaded audio can take longer than titles or progress records. Keep the app open and online when moving a large library.
3. Automatic and Manual Sync
While you are signed in, the web app listens for cloud changes to flashcards, listening, library, goals, lessons, courses, profile, and achievements. Returning to a visible browser tab also triggers a refresh.
- 1On the web, open Settings → App & Data → Sync Now to request the latest account, learning, and media metadata.
- 2Check the Last synced time and wait for the operation to finish.
- 3Reopen the affected deck, course, book, or playlist after sync.
- 4If data is still missing, confirm both devices use the same account and that the older device was online after its last change.
4. Daily Goals and Streaks
Talkey tracks three daily targets: flashcards reviewed, listening minutes, and reading minutes. Targets are stored with each day’s achieved values so history can sync rather than being recalculated only on the current device.
Individual streaks are calculated from days when their target was met. The overall streak depends on completing all active daily goals. Talkey does not currently expose a streak-freeze shop, so the old Help Center claim about spending freezes was incorrect.
- Set targets in Settings → Profile & Account → Daily Goals.
- Flashcard progress increases when you rate reviewed cards.
- Listening and reading progress use tracked time in their respective players.
- Timezone determines when one goal day ends and the next begins.
5. Profile and Preference Settings
- Change your profile picture, display name, user tag, country, app language, date format, and time format.
- Configure daily-goal, streak, word-review, course, and other learning reminders where supported.
- Use the feature-specific settings pages for flashcards, audio, radio, reading, courses, deck media, and uploaded books.
- Profile edits save to your account and can appear on other devices after sync.
7. Sign Out, Delete the App, or Delete the Account
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Sign out | Ends the session on that device. Your cloud account and data remain available when you sign back in. |
| Delete the app | Removes that installation and its local files. Synced account data remains in the cloud. |
| Delete account | Permanently removes the Talkey account and associated data after confirmation. This cannot be undone. |
Subscriptions must be cancelled separately
Signing out, deleting Talkey, or deleting your account does not reliably stop Apple or Paddle recurring billing. Cancel with the payment provider before deleting the account.
8. Backups, Exports, and Recovery
Talkey does not currently advertise one global account-history export from Profile settings. On iOS, individual flashcard decks can be backed up as TXT, HTML, Markdown, OPML, Anki, or CSV.
- Export important custom decks before deleting an account.
- Do not treat an offline-only file as synced until it appears on another signed-in device.
- If you reinstall iOS, sign in first and allow cloud restoration to finish before creating replacement copies of missing data.
9. If Sync Is Still Wrong
- Record which device has the newest correct copy and stop editing the same item elsewhere.
- Note the affected deck, course, book, episode, or setting and the approximate time of the last correct change.
- Run Sync Now on the web and keep iOS open online.
- Contact support before deleting local material; deletion can also sync.
